What We’re Thankful For: ShardSecure’s Year In Review

Happy Thanksgiving! At ShardSecure, we’ve got a cornucopia of achievements, resources, and news that we’re thankful for. From forging strong alliances to securing patents to growing our talented team, this year has been one for the books. Today, we’re digging into our Thanksgiving plenty and sharing what we’re most thankful for.

Being named a 2023 Gartner® Cool Vendor in Privacy

First on our gratitude list is our most recent achievement: being named a 2023 Gartner® Cool Vendor in Privacy. From our perspective, the recognition emphasizes the value of our innovative approach to data privacy, and we’re thrilled to be included. Our platform helps safeguard data wherever it is stored — including in cloud, on-prem, and hybrid- and multi-cloud architectures — and supports organizations in meeting the requirements of cross-border data protection laws.

Our alliances with KPMG, Entrust, and Wasabi

One of our main priorities has been to build strategic alliances with other leaders in tech and cybersecurity. This year, we’ve cemented several key relationships to promote innovation and benefit our mutual customers.

KPMG: In January, we announced our alliance with KPMG LLP, one of the top cyber consulting and advisory firms globally. KPMG LLP is bundling our Microshard™ solution with its cloud security service offerings in the US, providing a robust cloud security solution for our shared enterprise customers. KPMG is also supporting ShardSecure on go-to-market strategy to meet the growing need for data protection, privacy, and resilience in the cloud using jointly developed cloud security solution offerings.

Entrust: In January, we also announced our strategic tech alliance with Entrust, a global leader in trusted payments, identities, and digital infrastructure. The ShardSecure-Entrust partnership, part of the Entrust Ready Technology Partner Program, ensures that data in cloud environments is well protected for a growing market of enterprise companies and medium-sized businesses. ShardSecure’s protection of unstructured data complements Entrust’s protection of structured data, creating a robust solution to address a wide range of customer needs.

Wasabi: Most recently, we’ve announced our partnership with Wasabi Technologies, the hot cloud storage company and a leader in the cloud storage market. Through this partnership, we aim to deliver highly secure, resilient, and cost-effective data storage solutions to enterprise organizations.

The end result of these alliances? Robust cloud security solutions for our joint enterprise customers that go together as well as turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy.

Patenting our recipe for success

Speaking of delicious recipes, we’re also grateful that our own recipe for success — our innovative Microshard™ technology — has had its pivotal US patent application approved. In June, we received our official Notice of Allowance related to the patent application covering the current ShardSecure platform, and we expect that the USPTO will grant the patent imminently.

In our press release about the patent application, TAG Cyber senior analyst David Neuman said, “ShardSecure’s ability to provide agentless file-level protection and resilience in hybrid cloud, multi-cloud, and on-prem configurations puts it in a unique category. We anticipate that this US patent will strengthen customer trust in the ShardSecure platform and its specific benefits for data protection.” It’s our secret sauce to innovation, setting us apart from the competition.

Our team members, both established and new

We’re thankful for our dedicated and talented employees, both seasoned and new recruits. This year, we welcomed Joe Sorial as VP of Product and Lance Boyd as VP of Sales-Americas. We also promoted Julian Weinberger to Field CTO and Zack Link to CISO.

Exciting developments in tech and cybersecurity

Our gratitude list extends beyond our own successes. The cybersecurity sector continues to advance at a rapid pace, and there have been plenty of innovations this year to make us thankful.

AI and machine learning: One of the biggest pieces of industry news has been the rapid advancement of AI/ML technologies to aid in cybersecurity efforts. From automated threat detection systems to behavioral pattern analysis, AI and machine learning tools are helping to identify suspicious activity, minimize human error, and reduce the risk of breaches and attacks. They’re also allowing organizations to free up their IT teams and refocus their expertise on more complex issues.

Cloud security: After several years of accelerated migration, experts are devoting their full attention to the cloud. Cloud security was the fastest-growing segment within the IT security space this year, with an estimated growth of around 27% from 2022 to 2023. This is a positive sign, as cyberattacks in the cloud are finally getting the attention and resources needed to shut them down.

Ransomware awareness: We’re also thankful to see a growth in awareness around ransomware. Although the threat of attacks continues to grow in both severity and sophistication, more and more organizations are understanding the importance of ironclad data security, robust ransomware mitigation solutions, and regular employee training.

Consolidating platforms: There’s been a push this year to consolidate cybersecurity platforms in order to decrease complexity and simplify operations. Organizations are improving efficiency by using fewer vendors that offer more features from fewer products. We’ve been ahead of the curve with our unified, multi-protocol platform that allows us to consolidate all storage interfaces into one, even in complex multi- and hybrid-cloud environments with several different data storage interfaces.
